About Us.
We are a team of allied and public health professionals, with experience in service development, governance, and research, working together with local health and disability services to help people in Oceania get the assistive products (such wheelchairs, prosthetics, glasses, and hearing aids) they need to live their best lives.
We want to contribute to building an Oceania where everyone can get the help they need to live a full and happy life, through supporting accessible allied health, AT, and rehabilitation services.
Our Vision.
Our vision is a future where assistive technology (AT) and rehabilitation services are accessible across Oceania.
Our Mission.
Our mission is to collaborate on solutions that optimise AT and rehabilitation services for an inclusive Oceania. We achieve this by supporting Pacific-led design, delivery and management of services that optimise mobility, hearing and vision of community members, and by strengthening the ecosystems for accessible services and products.
Our Values.
Rights-based practice
AT and rehabilitation services are a human right. Taaro is committed to contributing to efforts by Pacific Nations to uphold these rights, as set out in the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
Collaboration
Taaro’s core approach is collaboration. We champion Pacific-led models of care, and forge partnerships through respectful, authentic relationships.
Resilience
Taaro is committed to fostering resilience in health and disability ecosystems, supporting an inclusive Oceania in spite of whatever challenges it may face.
Community
A community-centered approach underpins all that we do. Taaro engages communities in design, delivery and evaluation of AT and rehabilitation services, upholding the principle ‘nothing about us without us’
Accountability
Taaro ensures high levels of accountability to the Oceania community, by maintaining transparency in project and financial deliverables.
Our Logo.
Pacific leadership
For thousands of years, Oceanic people have used stars in the night sky to navigate between islands across the Pacific Ocean. In recognition of this leadership and ingenuity, the Taaro logo plots an image of the taro leaf through dots representing stars in a constellation.
Connection
At Taaro, we take a partnerships approach to our work. We believe that effective partnerships are built on strong relationships. In some parts of the Pacific, outside influences have had lasting effects on communities. That’s why we focus on working in a way that supports and strengthens local voices, not undermines or overpowers them. The bold lines in our logo show these connections—just like strong partnerships help us achieve better outcomes together.
Access and equity
The root of the taro plant is a highly nutritious food source, available in many parts across the globe, and is of particular significance in many countries in the Pacific. Growing in even the most sandy and salt-affected soils, taro is widely accessible food source. This represents our core value of equity of access to allied health, AT and rehabilitation services
